With the venue changed to Grove Park due to waterlogged pitches at Hough End Manchester 2's are left with a sinking felling after underperforming on a boggy pitch.

With Broughton Park’s pitches in flood the fixture was switched to Grove Park on a very wet but just about playable pitch. With both teams looking for their first win, and now with home advantage, Manchester went into the game hoping to break their duck. Unfortunately this wasn’t to be as the home side put in their worst performance this season.
The bigger Park pack dominated the home side all match. With the Manchester pack going in reverse at every scrum it was impossible to set a decent platform for the backs to play with the ball. The only respite from this came in the second half when prop Matt Wilde had to leave the field at half time due to injury. With no front row cover on the bench the second half was played with uncontested scrums.
Manchester did manage to win ball at the lineout, which was one area where the home side didn’t struggle. But the backs found it hard to break through the Broughton Park defence.
With poor tackling from the home side the visitors started to rack up a sizable score. Eventually though the Manchester backs did manage to break the defence and full back Ant Walker eventually crossed the line for Manchester’s only score of the day. Manchester were dealt a further blow when flanker Harvey Taylor had to leave the field 15 minutes into the game with a rib injury.
The second half continued in a similar vain to the first half. With Manchester missing countless number of tackles throughout Park continued to build on their 1st half score. Manchester were dealt a further blow when flanker Harvey Taylor had to leave the field 25 minutes into the second half with a rib injury.
With about 10 minutes of the game left the home side decided to run everything at Park and did manage to make precious yards into Broughton’s half but it was a case of too little too late and it was Broughton who came away with their first win of the season.
Take nothing away from Broughton Park, they dominated the game, wanted it more than Manchester and deserved the win. But the Manchester players would be the first to admit that they were poor in defence with too many missed tackles and let themselves down.
