Hat-trick for Walker and a brace for Jones on his debut as Manchester put 8 tries past Glossop with no reply.

Manchester 2’s made the trip to Glossop for their 9th round match in the NWIRUL Division2 South.
Manchester travelled with a much changed team from last week with the return from injury for centre Tom Rooney & 2nd Row Sam Davis, debut for winger Richard Jones & senior debut for colts prop Sam Oakes and a return to the club of back row Richard “Muzz” Murray.
With having to collect full back Dave Melville from work at 2:30 to get him to Glossop I missed most of the first half. With the home side camped 5 meters from the Manchester line and 30 minutes of the match gone I was under the impression that this was a close match. Fortunately I was reliably informed by travelling supporter and farther of Dom, Dallas Thomas, that this was the first time that the home side had been in our half, and that we were 24-0 up thanks to tries from Jones, Muzz & 2 from full back Ant Walker plus 2 conversions from fly half and captain Chris Lloyd. For the remaining 10 minutes of the half that I saw Manchester tireless defence held strong to keep the score at 24-0.
Manchester began the second half in emphatic style when Davis reclaimed the restart, the ball finding Rooney who beat the Glossop backline for pace to go in at the corner. This was followed up 4 minutes later when Lloyd cut through some weak Glossop defence to go in under the post only to follow up by missing the easiest of conversions (don’t worry he was fined later for it).
Manchester were now in the ascendency. The back row of Davis, Muzz & Martin Halsall making big yards and linking up well between themselves and the backline, while centres Rooney and terry Chatterton were running amok in the mid field. With the home side chasing shadows the ball eventually made it to the wing of Walker who, breaking and dodging a number of missed tackles from the home side, went under the post to complete his 2nd hat-trick of the season, this time Lloyd made no mistake with the conversion.
Harsh words were being said in the Glossop camp but the home side never gave up and did manage to venture into the Manchester 22 on a few occasions only to be meet by strong defence from the visitors.
With 12 minutes left on the clock Manchester had the last word when Jones capped off a fine debut performance by going over for his second try of the day.
This was a good all round team performance in both attack and defence but Manchester are under no illusions that they will have a tougher test next week when they face Liverpool Collegiate at Grove Park next week
