Dvelopment Team V Stockport XV

Development team given rugby lesson under floodlights
The second game under floodlights at Grove Park so the Development team take on an experienced Stockport team.
As before our squad was a mixture of raw new talent, some old heads out for a social game with a sprinkling of regular 3rd teamers to add experience.
The pattern for the first half was set early with Stockport taking advantage of the wind to pin Manchester in their own half, repeated drives eventually paid off with Stockport earning a well deserved try wide on the left. Despite gallant tackling and stoic defensive work the game remained deep in the Manchester half, after repeated forward drives the ball was released to the backs who scored wide out on the right this time. As the first half closed a break by the Stockport backs earned a third try.
With the wind to their advantage in the second half, Manchester kept Stockport pinned in their 22, however, despite repeated forward drives Manchester were unable to score often turning the ball over on contact or through misplaced passes. Due to injuries and a lack of front three replacements for Manchester, scrums for a large part of the second half had to go uncontested.
Against the run of play, Stockport managed to convert turnovers to their advantage and broke out of their half twice, using their pacey back line to score two tries.
Manchester never gave up and with Terry Hall using his experience to call the shots, Manchester forwards drove the ball close to the try line. Terry then released the backs and for once the ball was successfully transferred down the line for a score in the left hand corner.
