Short trip to Stockport

29 squad members made the short trip to Stockport; the fixture was split into 4x15 minutes to allow both coaching teams to experiment with their squads. Conditions were cold but dry, perfect for running rugby and the crowd were not disappointed. Both sides from the kick off played some super flowing rugby with great handling, Manchester had the upper hand in the 1st quarter scoring two unanswered tries, more opportunities were available; but Manchester did not make the most of their chances.

All change for the 2nd quarter with the development backs playing behind the 1st XI forwards; an even contest that Manchester edge by just the 1 try in the game with excellent performances from the Manchester back 3!

The 3rd quarter saw Stockport able to use the strength of their more experienced players in the contact area and particularly in the ruck; great tackling by the Manchester development team couldn’t keep out the waves of attack from Stockport who claimed 3 unanswered tries.

The final quarter saw a repeat of the 1st with Manchester making chances but only managing to cross the line twice.

Overall defence and the set piece were excellent as was the team work (Adam!); but we must work the ball rather than think we can blast through which against the likes of Stockport is not going to happen!
