Sunday 24th January 2011. Thanks to Frank for our latest sideline report

Another great turnout – 16 players plus Aiden (walking wounded), so everyone was able to get game time. We played 4 ‘halves’ the summary of which was 11 tries for, 3 against with 8 conversions. In the first 2 halves where everybody got involved we scored 7 unanswered tries. We let Aldwynians back into it in the last 2 halves, though we still managed 4 tries to their 3.

Highlights of the day were Max taking the 1st game by the scruff of the neck – as well as a few of the opposition – when a sustained period of passing from Manchester advanced us to near the opposition line. Max then ‘did his thing’, not once, but twice to put us in command. Will Cahill added another (Maurice looked forlorn on the sidelines, not yet getting over Jonny Wilkinson kicking Munster out of the Heineken Cup). Pat did the ‘Stand Off sneak’, over the top from the line out, top move. The passing down the line was really good, tackling was good when required – all round good job..

Change the team around – same result – good passing, good movement. This time, though, family pride was on the line. As we were playing, Connor Booth was scoring 2 tries for the 13’s (much to the delight of his Mum!!). Ciaran decided that this was clearly not good enough …… so scored 3 tries himself – nice one Ciaran! Barty added a fourth with a typical gutsy run to the line and that was another game in the bag.

Foot off the gas for the last 2 halves. We couldn’t keep a clean sheet, but still managed further tries from speedy Tom W, the second of which could have been an All Black winger running it in. Pat’s probing and alertness at restart’s got him a well earned score with a solo run to the line with the opposition sleeping – not sure how they missed him with that yellow hat though!! Tom J scored the last try picking up a loose kick, evading a couple of tackles and running into the corner …… passing his proud Grandma, Grandad, and Great Aunty Eileen who were standing on the sidelines - aaaar!
