The fine autumnal weather continued and so we were blessed with a welcoming warm sun on our backs...

as the team got back on their collective bicycle this week after the ‘entertainment’ of our trip to Bramhall last weekend.

We were short of a few today due to half term, illness and a couple carrying injuries (get well soon Hanno who we understand has had a metal plate installed, maybe he can get Sky on it and entertain himself on those days when the ball doesn’t make its way passed the centres) and it was also great to see Baby Spearmint who brought along the pedigree Teddy Pom Pom - he did tell the assembled throng that his grandfather had won Crufts a few years ago, didn’t get chance to ask if it was the Pugs grandfather or his own in the form of the lovely gentleman from Buxton he was talking about. Despite suspicion of too much green eyeshadow it was great to see Kylie supporting the lads and we look forward to welcoming him back to the rough and tumble next week.

Our friends from Aldwinians were only able to bring ten players as their playing ranks have been decimated by defections to Wendy Ball, we sympathise greatly and can only hope that the silk shirt wearers see the errors of their ways soon and return to a proper sport!

Only having fifteen players ourselves we donated a couple to Aldwinians and started the game 13 v 12 ( well done to McHooker and Noisy for being the first to help out the Hooped Shirted boys). The tone was set from the kick off, Aldwinians forwards ran the ball out of the 22 and after skipping round a couple of tackles was met by the slight frame of Scribblers Son who put his shoulder through the tackle and from the resulting turn over the ball went through a few sets of hands to reach Tomo who had no problem brushing aside some weak attempts at tackles and strolled over for the first try of the day. One of those days when Mr O could have scored at will!! You could tell Scribblers son thought he was going to get a mention in the match report for tackle of the day as he jogged back to the half way line for the re-start. However Captain Smurf (who had had his tracksuit top surgically removed before the game, coaches are wondering if his wallet is in the pocket?) had other ideas and his tackle on the Aldwinians prop in the next play was described by Big Simon from behind the bar as awesome and probably the best tackle he has seen by an Under 13 - praise indeed! I thought we may have needed Smurf senior to re-attach the top half of the props body such was the force of the tackle. Fair play to the player concerned who after recovering his breath carried on gamely for the rest of the game.

The rest of the first half saw some good inter-play amongst the backs, special mention to Wolfy who was playing amongst the three quarters today and his distribution was excellent in support of great play by young Humpy and Marcus. It was also noteworthy that the best contested contact areas were between the Manchester boys as Tomo, Semple, Smurf, Dave, Marcus, Sheapy and Mazzer all took their turns to help out the opposition. Apologies if I have missed anyone out. We didn’t quite get Usain to score the final try of the day but Tomo and Brad Pitt tried hard to make it happen.

It seems that Wendy Ball is having a big impact on the game, not least when Scribblers Son decided to impersonate Allesandro del Pierro holding his arms out-stretched and looking longingly at McRef for the ball not having travelled ten from the re-start - he should of course have realised that McRef knows most of the laws but as when he plays he only pays attention to a couple at a time and certainly will take no notice of English appealing!

After the game today there were a couple of incidents worthy of note, some high quality reffing by Mr O during the post game match of touch including Marcus being sent off for repeated infringements and two of the worst kicks ever seen in the history of the game from The Jolly Green Giant and Usain, more than deserving their removal from proceedings. More sinister was the decision by Jim and Barbara (The Royle Family) to lock their youngest son in the car and then pretend that he was next door getting food - need to check the CRB register immediately. mmmmmm Safeguarding course can’t come quickly enough.

Next week we will be training for those not jollying it around the world on holiday and then the week after we have Ormskirk in the Lancs Cup, so please make sure everyone is fit and healthy for that one!
