Widnes won a tight encounter 17 -15 against Manchester in a Lancashire Cup game.

Stats for this match are as follows: Manchester kicked the ball four times whilst Widnes kicked five times. Manchester had two lineouts, winning both, whilst Widnes had eight losing seven. We had five scrums, winning four, whilst Widnes were awarded eight, winning seven. Manchester were awarded four penalties and Widnes five. Stats showed that in this match the ball got out to the wing six times but, there were also six breakdowns.

This was a tight game that saw both teams work hard and fight back at each setback. Despite it not being Manchester's finest performance ( we have seen some great rugby this season), it will be a useful one to get the boys to develop their own rugby reflection skills to see what they think they could have done better in the game. Although it is a hard lesson, sometimes it is good to lose if only to highlight areas in play that need addressing, so learn from this game because next up is Wilmslow.
