Aldwinains were the opposition in the second round of the Lancashire Cup – Blacksticks Blue Junior Challenge, a new look cross pitch complete with new posts (thanks to all that helped out after the call to arms from Dangerous (banner picture) who stayed in bed), however the new posts weren’t tested as Manchester had scored 7 tries by half-time and it was agreed to play a training game.
The day didn’t start of that well, with one late cry off, 1 no show and 1 injury after slipping in the changing rooms, a new look backline was put together with Mike making his Lancashire Cup debut on the wing. The boys started slowly again even after Captain Ellis had delivered a few key points in the huddle! But once they started with continuity and attacking the space, Aldwinians just couldn’t keep up with the excellent decision making and pace of play, miss-matches were created and converted into scores. It was agreed at half-time that the game was over and credit to Aldwinians who came out in the second half and took a 14-0 lead with some strong running by their number 6; the new look Manchester side with 4 changes (Ollie had to go to wendy ball at United – big mistake!) and 15 positional which included Will and Alex in the back-row which soon changed when damage occurred to both players fringes during the first scrum, a cheeky drop goal and a couple of tries completed a fine morning of rugby.
Thanks to JS for taking charge of the game, we particularly enjoyed how you kept up with play!
