A dramatic late winner in the dying seconds of game 3 earned Manchester a fabulous away victory over a tough Lymm side.

So often second best to Lymm sides who traditionally place an emphasis on discipline and selection, Manchester’s victory was so much the sweeter, coming as it did on the back of teamwork and concentration for the whole fixture.

The Tigers produced their best performance yet to fight back from defeat in game 1 to cruise through game 2 and produce a steely performance in the decider to edge the tie.

The U7s clearly learned from the home game against Wilmslow where slow starts in all three ties left them with too much to do after falling behind very quickly in each game. Not this time though with Manchester quick to the ball and holding an excellent defensive line.

Just as Wilmslow did a fortnight earlier, Lymm had a large squad and were able to field three full teams, a fresh one for each game. The Tigers had just ten players for the day which made the victory all the more enjoyable.

Game 1 saw Lymm’s strongest team play and despite spirited resistance from Manchester, they were worthy winners, taking the tie 4-1. There could easily have been a couple more tries from the Tigers against a much bigger side but a combination of inexperience and indecision prevented a closer score.

Manchester roared back in game 2, a flurry of tries taking the match to 5-1 before a late try from Lymm restored some respectability to the scoreline.

The third tie was a tense, low scoring affair with the emphasis on quality tagging and stout defence. Manchester held their line superbly well and were on the money from the whistle, turning the ball over twice with Lymm seeming like they couldn’t fail to score.

The match was tied 2-2 with the seconds ebbing away only for Manchester to break away and score a thrilling winning try in the corner.

A fabulous victory then for Manchester played in a great spirit by both teams and coaches.

The titanic ten - well done guys: (Lightning Ben, Frank, Luke, Alex, Ben H, Myles, George, Eddie, Ollie, Ewan)
