We are proud to be part of a “Kids First” Rugby Club and we have a player-centred coaching philosophy. In plain English this means kids having fun learning rugby and their needs and enjoyment come first.
We encourage our players to be the best that they can be and we place enjoyment at the heart of all that we do.
All new players always made extremely welcome.
We meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00 and sessions finish at 12.00 noon.
- To be eligible for U9’s your son or daughter must be 8 years old on 1st September 2017 (Year 4)
- Mouth guards are mandatory. Please ask if you need some advice about mouth guards
- We play both Contact Rugby and Touch Rugby. Contact means that we are learning to tackle this year. We can talk you through what this means at this age group.
- Please bring a drink and a snack for your child
These are the core skills of Rugby: PASSING, CATCHING, TACKLING, RUNNING and EVASION and we develop these skills through targeted games, maximising fun, as opposed to drills.
Our players have the freedom to play without the fear of making mistakes, to express themselves using their imagination and to be creative - in other words: be themselves!
We have a squad of mixed ability and stature: they all have their own strengths and areas to work on. The players naturally grow and develop at different rates and we look carefully at the needs of both the individual and the team in terms of overall development.
We really encourage the kids to help each other out because learning from your teammates is a great way to learn.
We operate a rotation policy so all of our players are given equal game time.
We use both one-on-one coaching as well as small-sided games.
Child Protection – We adhere to the RFU’s Safeguarding Guidelines. All our coaches are RFU qualified and hold enhanced DBS (criminal records) checks.
Concussion – any player that receives a knock to the head will be immediately removed from play and will not be allowed to return. We will assess the player and we will, if necessary, recommend that the player is taken for assessment by a medical professional.
We keep an eye on the weather because cold and wet children make unhappy rugby players! Please bring appropriate clothing for the conditions. Please be aware if it gets very cold and/or wet we may stop the session before 12.00noon
