Sale Away

After last Sunday's full turnout, the squad was hit badly by a number of withdrawals, however the 14 boys who made it to Sale showed some great tenacity and defense to give a strong sale squad a run for their money.

The boys were split into 2 teams of 7, with Nim and Rob taking Seb, Joel, Ishy, Sergio, Kaya, Will C and Sam N, whilst Neil coached, Charlie, Joe K, Alex, Ashwin, Max, Will M and Edward.

The boys each played 2 games in this formation, on relatively small pitches, whilst the two squads merged to play a final game on a full sized pitch.

Of Rob and Nim's squad, Seb was launching himself like a rocket and Sergio was using the ball to get through the Sale defense! Kaya played really well to find space, Sam and Ishy were tenacious in the tackle and Joel's jinking runs threatened the try line continuously.

The other squad were unlucky on a number of occasions with 3 tries being disallowed in their first game for going into touch. Despite this set back, there were notable performances from Edward whose direct running and strong tackling is becoming a weekly feature. Charlie was unfortunate to have a try rubbed off when the referee felt the ball was not grounded correctly. Alex is also gaining confidence in attack, whilst Max and Joe K are realising that they both possess the confidence to either run direct at the defense or find the space outside. Unfortunately Will M took a knock which meant he couldn't play the last game, but by this time he had already put some great tackles in.

In the last game, we moved the ball well across the line with both Charlie and Joel unlucky to have tries disallowed for not grounding the ball. Sergio and Edward were excellent in controlling the play with great support from Joe K and Max. This game ended up a 3 -3 draw, with the opposition scoring with the last play of the game.
