Manchester were put under the cosh at the breakdown by a powerful Leigh outfit who came to win with great rucking and mauling on show for all to see.

Game 1: MRC 0v20 Leigh

Having not had the pleasure of playing against Leigh before, the Manchester players did not know what to expect...Well, they do now!! Though Manchester came at Leigh with their usual enthusiasm for the game, they were no match for the visitors in the loose and this really was the story of the game. Though Manchester were dominant at the scrum, with a technically better set up, they just could not compete at the breakdown, where Leigh had superiority in physicality, strength and skill set. The game was one of commitment from both sides, good strong running, excellent scrummaging and exquisite rucking and mauling from Leigh. This set them up for every score and try as they might, the Manchester players had no answer to the Leigh power in the loose, shipping four tries to nil during the match.

Game 2: MRC 5v15 Leigh

Game 2 saw a full change over of players and with it a stronger showing in the mauling, though this was still an area that we could not really compete at throughout the match. With Leigh taking the lead early on, Manchester had it all to do. With the ball being run into touch as Leigh attacked again from turnover ball Manchester lined up at a very mismatched (height wise) line out. As it turned out, Leigh knocked on, gifting the ball to Manchester, Ollie flicked the ball backwards to Fin who flung a long pass out to H Bomb and he was off. Side stepping plenty of players he weaved his way hither and thither to slide over the try line and record Manchester's one and only try to level the score 5 all. Leigh were never going to put up with that and straight from the restart they ran over the Manchester team to redress their advantage and by the close had added a further try to take the game away from Manchester.

Today's totally awesome Tigers were (tries in brackets): Bill, Dan, Ethan, Fin, Hanuf, Harrison (1), James, Joseph, Louis, Matthew, Myles, Nathan, Ollie, Tom Mac and Will.

No.1 Defender: Nathan
Tackle of the Week: Ethan
Player of the Week: Harrison

Next week finds us away at Heaton Moor, Hanuf's previous club, a side that beat us fairly convincingly earlier in the season (though we were missing a number of players due to holidays at the time) and who will be looking to do the same on their home soil. Having had good displays in previous seasons we should go with plenty of confidence that we can give a good account of ourselves and....who knows what might just happen!!

Crouch, touch, set! Ian
