Manchester vs Preston Grasshoppers – Sun 20th Feb

Weatherwise a cold morning. The boys were put through their paces to warm up. Parents had to rely on cups of tea to warm themselves up!

The format for the fixture was 4 quarter matches.
One of the coaches from Preston agreed to ref the games and comments were made throughout the morning about his lovely manner and fantastic reffing.

Preston were a formidable side. In the first quarter Manchester scored first. Preston came back and scored next but Manchester managed to get another try in to clinch the game. Both sides worked hard to get the ball and get it out to run it but were often thwarted by great tackling.

The second quarter was also hard fought. Both sides came close to scoring but again, both defended well and this quarter ended up with no score.

The third quarter saw both teams change a few players but again they were well matched. Manchester’s tackling prevented some tries from Preston.

The fourth quarter was well played by the teams with the ball moving up and down the pitch evenly. Manchester just managed to maintain their dominance to win this quarter.

There was a final quarter for the players who were not too tired. By this time Manchester had some players who had rested and they managed to dominate against a now tiring Preston side.

This was a great fixture with both teams working hard and playing well. Thanks to Preston for being a great side and also for the ref.
