Manchester U12s festival 9 Oct '16
The standard of rugby and commitment levels shown by the 20 teams at Grove Park matched the excellent autumn weather.
First up for Manchester was Littleborough. A super combination of teamwork, strong running and fine handling saw the home team run out 8-0 victors.
Liverpool Collegiate provided a sterner test in the second match. Manchester's pace was decisive in claiming a 4-0 win.
In the 3rd match Sedgley Park were the opponents. Again Manchester's speed and strength assured 7-1 result
Early pressure from Heaton Moor, in the final group game and Manchester fell behind for the first time in 4 games. Disciplined efforts from the whole team saw a tough fight back and 3-1 win.
Manchester's group record: won 4, lost 0, tries for - 22, against - 2.
Awaiting them in the cup semi-final was Sefton, who offered the strongest opposition to that point. Defences dominated - the two sides were inseparable over the 10 minutes -neither side managing a touch down in a 0-0 draw.
Manchester progressed against sporting adversaries thanks to their better record in the group stages
In the final a depleted but determined home team, with reinforcement from Sefton, faced a strong Stockport squad. The visitors built a 2-0 lead - two late scores and the visitors took the cup with a final 4-0 win.
Congratulations Stockport.
The last mini tournament for this group of U12s entertained families and players. Proud parents, enthusiastic coaches, community supporters from Sales Sharks and respectful team mates enjoyed great opportunities to see children test themselves, their skills and organisation against equally determined kids from throughout the North-West. A day to remember for all - a day for friendships to flourish, for character to shine.
As ever St John's ambulance gave treatment when needed and Land Rover offered free teas and coffees.
Deep thanks to all involved for creating the event and lasting memories.
