Manchester u 12’s first fixture of the season 2011-12 was a home fixture vs. Aldwynians.
After a great deal of activity in the transfer market over the summer we had a new squad with a number of old and experienced players, some that have discovered our fine sport on starting secondary school and some that just fancied something new.
The weather was fine and the boys were up for the match, we played four 10 min quarters until all players were fit for no more.
The squad for the day was Tom B, James, Max, Matt B, Joe, George, Laurence, Ciaran, Luke, Tom J, Aiden, Tom w, Josh F, Matt G, Dan W and Dan R
The boys came out of the blocks quickly and put Aldwynians under pressure, being a bit rusty it took a while but Ciaran forced his way over to end the first quarter 1 try up and Tom J made a perfect conversion. End of 1st quarter 7-0.
One or two changes minor changes for the second quarter and Manchester settled strongly into this quarter one or two hard fought battles and some great pressure put Luke over for 2 tries, easily converted again by Tom J. Score 21-0
The coaches made some serious changes in the 3rd quarter bringing a lot of the new signings into the fray and moving some of the older hands around the pitch a little. The boys battled gamely and the score for this session was 0-0.
The last quarter, more changes were made by the coaches and valuable game time was given to many of the newer players. Much of this portion of the game was played in midfield with the newer lads having a baptism of fire learning the contact side of the game the hard way. They battled hard and held Aldwynians again to 0-0.
Overall a great start to the season and a victory 21- 0 for the first fixture to the season. Well done lads.
