Walshy returned to his old stomping ground for this fixture, which was a bit tense last season, and we narrowly lost that close encounter. Heaton Moor are in our Lancashire Cup group so a good performance was required.
HM had a couple of big lads in their ranks, and they were causing us some issues, but we got our rucking heads on and began to work our way upfield.
Even though we were passing the ball out along the line, our runners were taking the ball back into contact area’s and therefore the forwards were being called upon more and more to win the ball.
Our pressure told though with Greg (on debut) scoring a typical Max try (without the yellow hat, though) leaving tacklers in his wake. Just to prove it was no fluke, Greg did it again, this time spinning out of a couple of tackles so elegantly I think he could be a contender for Strictly!
Ciaran finished off the scoring with a pick up, drive and score move off the back of the scrum. Good win!
All change for the second game, but Max scored the only try to give us a narrow win, but another clean sheet and more experience for our new players.
