County Calls For Manchester’s Girls
Manchester’s aim to be the area's centre for Girl’s and Women’s rugby took a step forward on the weekend,with several players representing Cheshire.
Altrincham Kersal RFC hosted the first round of this season’s Northern Counties Trophy and spectators were treated to three very competitive matches against the Northumberland visitors. Manchester were proud to provide players at U15, U18 and Senior level.
Manchester’s successful U15 team from last season provided the county with six players (Emma Broadbent, Bethan Emuss, Eleanor Harper, Emily Houghton, Jess Johnson and Rebecca Scholes), as well as Sandbach player Charlee Chambers who has teamed up with the Manchester side for the 2009/10 season.
The younger Cheshire girls took time to settle and found themselves two converted tries down in the first quarter. From that point however, the girls were more than a match for the visitors and finished the match 12-24, with a try and a conversion from Cheshire and Manchester U15 captain Rebecca Scholes.
