Match Report by Matthew Miles
Rainy conditions greeted the teams once more as the teams took to the field for the last match of 2015 with Manchester looking to regain top spot in the league.
As matches go, this was about as one-sided as you can get. Constant early pressure from the home team paid dividends after just 5 minutes when Luke, making a welcome return to the team, swept over the try line for the afternoon’s first score. Conversion by Will to make it 7-0.
3 minutes later the home side’s advantage was doubled, Harry Lewis made a strong break to score Manchester’s second try and again, Will slotted over for the two extra points.
A cricket scored seemed inevitable but some how Manchester contrived to butcher chance upon chance. To be fair, the conditions were akin to a paddling pool with the ball slipping from the grasp of players like a wet bar of soap on many occasion.
It wasn’t until deep into the second half when Luke stormed through the Rochdale defence once more to make the game safe at last. The trusty boot of Will converted successfully once more to make the final score 21-0.
All in all, a great way to finish the year. An ultimately comfortable victory, back on top of the table, and lots to play for in the new year.
The onus on 2016 is surely for the whole squad to now pitch in and ensure that we’ve got sufficient numbers for every remaining game. When we put out a strong team with the support of a strong bench we’re an extremely tough nut to crack.
Lastly, a very merry Christmas to all players, coaches, parents and supporters. Enjoy your festive feast (not too much in the case of the playing squad) and we look forward to seeing you all back at Grove Park in the new year!!!
