Pool Game 1
Sandbach/Manchester (14) 29 Vale of Lune (5) 5
Apart from a long injury break for Thea Brau, this was a very promising start to the tournament with the girls dominating from the kick off.
After treatment at A&E, Thea was welcomed back by her team mates, just a little worse for wear.
Pool Game 2
Sandbach/Manchester (0) 5 Glossop (14) 19
Glossop have become our bogey side in the matter of just a few weeks!
Why they should keep beating us when we know that we are more than a match is a complete mystery...despite some excellent play, particularly in the second half, we lost in our only patchy performance of the day.
Pool Game 3
Sandbach/Manchester (7) 24 Tyldsley/Waterloo/LSH (0) 0
Back in the groove after the disappointment in the second game.
This was a classy performance and we fancied our chances again.
(As an aside, here is a quote from our opponents report on this game: "As the referee called for the game to continue, the Sandbach girls stopped the game to advise the referee that they wanted to withdraw a player to even up the contest. Makes you proud doesn’t it? These girls smash each other on the pitch showing no mercy, but always with the utmost respect for their opponents.")
Pool Game 4
Sandbach/Manchester (0) Caldy (0) 5
This was an almighty battle with neither team prepared to give any ground whatsoever.
The match was won with seconds to go after a determined attack from Caldy was desperately and bravely defended. The fact that the score was made in the corner and a lengthy break for medical attention to two defenders followed tells its own story.
That one try denied Sandbach/Manchester a place in the final which was contested between Glossop and Caldy. In that decisive match, Caldy ran out popular winners at their own tournament but few would deny that the crunch game of the day was our loss to them by that solitary late score.
