Light shining through the clouds

With the constant newsfeed of "lockdown", "isolation", "pandemics" and fears that things will never be the same again there has been some recent good news in the rugby world relating to former Manchester Rugby Club players and coaches.

You may have noticed from our Twitter feed that former M&J player & current England international Ben Spencer has left Saracens to continue his career in the Premiership at Bath.

Ciaran Parker has left Munster Rugby, returning to the England Rugby system by signing for Jersey Reds in the Greene King IPA Championship; whilst another player has gone the opposite way, making the most of his Irish routes, Ciaran Booth signing for Connacht Rugby following his time with Sale Sharks.

Continuing the theme of the Championship, another former M&J player (and prop), Elliot Millar-Mills has re-signed with promotion chasing Ealing Trailfinders having made a big impression at the club following a previous stint with Edinburgh Rugby.

Moving away from the playing side of things, former Manchester DoR Elaine Vassie was announced as the new Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach of Major League Rugby (MLR) side the Dallas Jackals who will enter the US professional rugby league in 2021. Elaine continues her tradition of being a trailblazer for women in our sport by becoming the first female assistant GM in the league's history, having previously become the first ever head coach or director of rugby in English Rugby's National Leagues when taking the reigns at Grove Park way back in 2009.

Good luck to ALL in their rugby careers, we will all be keeping a close eye on their respective progress over the coming seasons!

P.S It's nice to talk about our MRC Family in the professional game without mentioning first team coach Sam James, or his brother, Luke.......oh wait.....
