We are saddened to bring you the news of the passing of Roger (Arol) Shoesmith. Roger died on 31 May, aged 73 years, this was just a few weeks after the sad death of Sue, his wife. Roger played for Manchester FC in the 70’s and 80’s, with a few games in the 90’s. Roger was a cracking player, great musician, and a very entertaining chap. Never a dull moment in Roger’s company. Roger was also a member of Squash and played in the international leagues, and continued his association with Grove Park long after retirement from rugby. Roger moved away from Bramhall to Rhosneigr to pursue, his passion of windsurfing/kitesurfing which he continued to enjoy up to the end of 2025, and where he engaged in many community projects. Roger leaves behind his daughters Emma and Sarah and three lovely grandchildren.

Roger’s and Sue’s funeral is taking place on 8 June 2026 at St Maelog’s Church, Llanfaelog, Anglesey LL63 5ST commencing at 12.00pm.
