Lymm brought three teams to play against us on a cold and rainy day at Grove Park. However, the two Manchester teams stood up to the test and held their ground!
The Dragons were Kaya, Joe C, Joel, Sergio,Sam and Seb. They started with a tight game where the teams spread the ball well, Sergio and Joe both ran in three tries with Joel and Kaya scoring the others in a 8-8 draw. The tagging was better in the second game , including a diving tag on the line from Joel! Manchester ran out winners 5 -4, spreading the scores between Kaya, Joe, Joel and Sergio.
As the boys were getting tired, they pulled together for a final match and fought back from a half time score of 5-3 down to draw 7-7 with Joe and Sergio scoring three tries each again and Kaya maintaining his record of scoring in every game.
Sergio fitted into the team well and Sam enjoyed his first matches, Joe C was consistent in attack whilst Seb was reliable in defence as the boys remained unbeaten over their three games.
The Sharks were Max, Ishy, Joe K, Ashi, Alexander and Harry. They started with a scrappy 9-9 draw, with Max and Ishy leading the way with three tries each. The boys were more concerned with disco moves and bunched together alot in the first game, often getting caught out by leaving gaps for Lymm to exploit. Joe K was unlucky to have a try ruled as he didn't have control of the ball but he managed to score one and Ashi .
However, as the day wore on, they started to pass the ball around more and arguing less. Alexander carried the ball well and Ashi found space well, they were unlucky to lose the second game 9-6. Ishy and Max both scored two, Harry and Ashi completed the scoring whilst two tries were disallowed by the Lymm referee
In the third game, the boys controlled the game and had two turnovers for their tagging against a physical side. Harry scored a great breakaway try and Alexander might have scored a good try if the ball hadn't bounced off his knee. There were a couple of moves where we passed the ball before tags and the ball was spread across the field. Ashi and Harry scored two each,Joe and Ishy scored one as Manchester ran out winners 6-4.
The boys were in good spirits and when they put together passes rather than arguing over the ball, they played well. Harry showed his speed and the experience of Ishy, Ashy and Max showed in their twisting runs whereas Alexander and Joe K were more direct.
Altogether, Manchester put together a good performance without a number of important players against a strong Lymm squad.
