In training at the moment, the coaches are trying to encourage the boys to pass the ball across the pitch especially before we are tagged in order to keep possession of the ball.
The boys practised drills of passing down a diagonal line and running onto the pass and this week saw good signs of the boys moving the ball well and looking for players in support.
We observed the minute's silence for Rememberance Sunday well, even Max stayed silent for it! Then the boys split into two teams of 9 for the matches.
The Tigers were with Dave and Rob, playing two matches against West Park winning 14-10. They got off to a flying start with a turnover for 6 tags and a great run by Joe C and there was good passing in the midfield by Ashi and Seb. Joe K and Sergio made good runs and there was excellent defensive play as Manchester ran out winners 5-3. In the second game, there was good passing from Daoud, Kaya and Ethan and Sergio,Seb and Oli each scored a try in support to two from Joe C and three from Ashi.
The Sharks were with Neil and Nim played three games, two against Orrell and one against West Park winning all three games totalling 17 to 12.
The boys found the pitch a bit slippery with both Ishy and William skidding into touch in the opening moments. Joel and Alexander were passing the ball well whilst Finlay and Max were fierce in defence. Sam ran out with a break away try to seal a 5-4 win.
In the second game, the boys spread out more and there were good signs of them passing before they were tagged and looking for the players in support. One try had six passes without being tagged. Joe K swapped over to sub into a game and ran straight over the line. Max was unlucky to score two tries which were ruled out as he had been tagged as we won 7 to 4!
In the third game, the Orrell team were a bit more physical and were pushing the boys as they charged towards the line but the boys stayed firm and tagged well forcing two turnovers. Finlay was strong in defence and scored a good try, Ishy and Max combined well with their passing and there was a superb try where Alexander made ground and then passed onto an onrushing William. Sam sealed the victory with another breakaway try in the last 10 seconds.
Overall, we won 31 to 22 with a very pleasing performance.
