First game up on a tight pitch saw the away side take an early lead, both sides traded tries in a tense opening match which was settled with Harvey scoring in the corner after a fantastic charge through the Stockport midfield by Andrew. Great stuff, the crowd were on their feet!!
Game two again began with an early Manchester score, Robbie bursting through to set down in the corner, but Stockport weren’t done yet, and broke through for a quick response. The young lions were looking tiny compared to some of Ports huge players but some outstanding defensive work by Robbie and breakaway tries from Olly and Tom saw Manchester to the final whistle with a draw.
Game three saw Manchester romping into a three nil lead Josh was finding space to weave some magic, and Harvey was pulling off tags like a man possessed. Stockport couldn’t cope and they looked to be crumbling when Henry went over after winning turn over ball. Credit to Stockport though, driven on by their coach their direct running started to pay dividends, and their was nothing Manchester could do as they powered back in to the game to level the scores at three all.
Game four saw Stockport in possession but being pushed backwards by some disciplined defending. Stockport drew first blood though, until Travis brought MCR storming back into the game. Port restored their advantage almost immediately from the restart, until Brandon levelled at the death!! Another draw!
Game 5 was a competitive affair, Stockport were penned in their own half and a couple of tries from Teddy and Zack pressed home the advantage, but Stockport were getting their big man on the ball, and nearly 6ft tall and 80 kg’s he was a real handful for the Manchester defence and they stormed back to level. The game turned though on a Stockport mistake. Manchester showed how clinical they are becoming, pinching the ball and passing along the line for Lewis to score in the corner, another win!!
Last game saw Stockport dominate the early exchanges, and taking advantage of some cold hands on the Manchester side racing into a two nil lead until Josh pegged them back, and Andrew levelled. The final few moments really showed how this emerging team is developing, holding the defensive back line in the face attack after attack eventually winning the ball after the seventh tag, then playing some beautiful passing rugby to almost take the last game at the death.
Continue like this and we have some exciting Sunday mornings to look forward too. Forget the warm duvet, pot of tea and Sunday papers, lurch out of bed put your wellies on and get down to watch the under 8’s!!
Men of the match: Lewis and Henry, well done boys!!
